Databases Gone?

Postby MacGen » Wed Apr 13, 2005 2:49 pm

Eight hours ago, I was busy making updates to my database.

Now, when I connect with Enterprise Manager, NO databases are listed.

I use Enterprise Manager to access eight different servers - no problem with the other seven.

I'd appreciate your assistance.

I noticed before that my DB, Northwind and pubs were the only databases on the server...

Dear MacGen,

As you can guess, we have many SQL servers. We need to know your SQL server IP address and your database name to investigate this issue.

P.S. Can you log in to your SQL Web Administrator? You can find its URL in "Hosting Information ..." email. It is something like http://sql.dotnetpark.com or http://sql.dotnetpark.us , but, of course, I can not guess it, because I do not know your SQL server IP.

IP address is: 72.36.144.154

The server databases came back online, but now the website is down ("Service Unavailable").

Same problems here too

Postby Bill » Thu Apr 14, 2005 8:31 pm

I'm having the same problems.

Tech-support is telling me the problem is on "my end".
And I should try resetting my router.

I've tried it from several different locations.
I'm not sure how "resetting 1 router" can fix all 20 of my programs...
or accessing them from home, work, and a friend's house.

Everything worked flawlessly 30 hours ago. But nothing since
then. Something has DEFINITELY changed.

Same problems after "resetting my router" too.

Tech-support ran a "test bed" and everything came back as "running fine". It *DEFINITELY* isn't checking everything.

Even the simpliest ASP/ADO/SQL code fails when I try to run it.

OK - I'm now back to the original problem.

When I connect to SQL Server at 72.36.144.154 with Enterprise Manager, and then open the "Databases" item in the tree, it responds with "(no items)" instead of the usual list of databases. (The usual list is: bugtracker; MacGeneral; Northwind; pubs.)

In the same Enterprise Manager session, I can successfully open Database tree branches for all six of the other servers I administer. (Hence, I'd be skeptical of a system or firewall issue on this end.)

The problem was corrected (or corrected itself) a couple hours after the first time I reported it.

The database must be functioning as my data-driven site is operating normally.

Dear Typ0,

MacGen said: "I'm having a problem!"
I asked: "What is your site IP?"

then

Bill said: "I'm having a problem!"
I asked him also: "What is your site IP?"

and now you're saying: "My site is down!"

Would you guess my next question? ;)

I kinda figured a whole box was down so it didn't matter...and I was right! Thanks for fixing it :D.
